Job Description

Railway & Transit Engineers in Japan are responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining railway systems and urban transit networks. This includes tracks, stations, signaling systems, and rolling stock. They ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability of public transport and commuter rail services. Engineers collaborate with government agencies, contractors, and technology providers to implement advanced transit solutions, including high-speed trains and metro systems.

Working Hours

  • Standard: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Monday to Friday)

  • Weekly: 40–45 hours

  • Overtime: Common during construction phases, maintenance, or project deadlines

  • Work type: Combination of office design/planning, field supervision, and site inspections

Required Skills

  • Railway system design (tracks, signaling, electrification)

  • Structural and civil engineering knowledge

  • Transportation planning and modeling

  • Project management and coordination

  • Familiarity with Japanese safety and transit standards

  • CAD and engineering software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Revit)

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Communication skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and plan railway tracks, stations, and transit systems

  • Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and environmental assessments

  • Oversee construction and installation of railway infrastructure

  • Implement and monitor safety and operational standards

  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and government agencies

  • Perform maintenance planning and troubleshooting for existing rail networks

  • Ensure compliance with Japanese transportation regulations and standards

  • Prepare reports, technical drawings, and project documentation
