Job Description

A Botanical Research Assistant supports research projects in plant biology, ecology, and horticulture. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and documenting plant specimens, assisting with laboratory experiments, and maintaining greenhouse or field sites. In Japan, these roles contribute to agriculture, conservation, environmental research, and pharmaceutical plant studies, often under the supervision of senior botanists or research scientists.

Working Hours

  • Standard: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Monday to Friday)

  • Weekly: 40–45 hours

  • Seasonal/field work may require flexible hours

Required Skills

  • Plant identification and taxonomy knowledge

  • Laboratory techniques (microscopy, DNA extraction, plant tissue culture)

  • Field sampling and ecological survey methods

  • Data collection, recording, and analysis

  • Use of software for statistical analysis (Excel, R, SPSS)

  • Attention to detail and scientific reporting

  • Teamwork and communication skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and conducting plant research experiments

  • Collect and document plant samples from field or greenhouse

  • Perform laboratory experiments and record results

  • Maintain plant collections, greenhouses, or herbariums

  • Prepare data summaries, charts, and reports for research publications

  • Assist with environmental impact or conservation studies

  • Support senior researchers in ongoing R&D projects
