Job Description

A Fishery Worker or Aquaculture Technician in Japan is responsible for breeding, raising, and harvesting fish, shellfish, and other aquatic species in freshwater or saltwater environments. Workers manage fish farms, hatcheries, and aquaculture facilities to ensure healthy stock, sustainable production, and high-quality seafood.

Working Hours

  • Typically 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week

  • Early morning or night shifts may occur depending on operations

  • Overtime may be required during harvesting or peak seasons

  • Work may involve outdoor conditions and physically demanding tasks

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of fish farming techniques and aquaculture equipment

  • Ability to monitor water quality and maintain tanks or ponds

  • Feeding, harvesting, and handling aquatic species

  • Use of nets, boats, and aquaculture tools safely

  • Observation and problem-solving skills for fish health issues

  • Physical endurance and manual dexterity

Key Responsibilities

  • Feed and monitor the growth of fish and aquatic species

  • Maintain water quality and tank/pond conditions

  • Monitor for diseases or abnormalities in stock
